A Few Tid-Bits

I hope everyone had a happy Tuesday.  It certainly was a busy day, but I feel we got a lot accomplished today.  Thank you to the PBIS team for meeting this morning.  Thank you to the new teachers for meeting this afternoon.  Thank you everyone for such great teamwork and support you give to one another!

TO KNOW:
BPIS:  We will begin Hawks tickets after Labor Day.  PBIS team members will be working with grade level teams to explain the processes, expectations, goals, and rewards.  Remember--these are "our" kids, and it will take all of us to nurture their development.  I will be updating the RtI/PBIS tab with information this week and as we move forward.

Lunchroom:  We are down 3 assistants this year to help cover lunch duties which puts extra strain on those assigned.  Although we have not done the formal "lunchroom matrix training" with our students, please remind kids to speak with inside voices, keep their areas clean, stay seated until tables are dismissed.  On Wednesday, we will be using colored cups to help students be more aware of timing.  Red=quietly eating/stay seated, Yellow=5 minutes left--need to finish and clean area/return to seat and wait patiently for table to be dismissed, Green=table is clean, all are seated and quiet/class is dismissed from cafeteria.  I will be working with each table on Wednesday to teach expectations and cup colors.

Custodians:  Troy is new and is still in the process of discovering what methods, etc. are going to work best for him--It's a huge school and massive job!  We discussed a few things tonight and what I'd like to see for the school--  1)  Expand role in cafeteria to include helping with tables and getting to know kids  2)  prioritizing custodial duties--vacuuming and garbage are most important--
That being said, there are some areas we can improve to help support the custodians--1) Make sure large items are picked up from floor (wads of paper, crayons, etc)  2)  Please try not to make immediate requests for help from the custodian unless it's necessary (rather, put a note in Sandy's mailbox)  3)  If you want your whiteboards/blackboards clean, please leave a note on the mirror in the classroom.  Custodians do not want to erase important information (Perhaps once/twice a week would be appropriate)  4)  Please speak to kids about paper towels in the bathroom (they need to go inside the garbage cans, not on the floor)

Mrs. Rogers:  Our counselor, Mrs. Rogers, was in a car accident this weekend.  She and her family are fine, but Mrs. Rogers did suffer a concussion.  We spoke to her today, and she is doing well.  She anticipates returning to our school on Thursday.  Please keep her in your thoughts as she is healing.

TO DO:
1.  Leadership team will meet tomorrow during collaboration to discuss differential pay plan and help set goals to those ends.
2.  Collaboration--work with your teams for 3 tasks--a)  complete establishing norms (please put a copy in my mailbox)   b) complete the prioritizing list (one copy for each team)  Form is in the documents tab on blog (turn list into my mailbox)    c) begin looking at data results from last year and start thinking about action plans  Turn collaboration form into my mailbox by Thursday--I have to send to dist office by Friday.
3.  3 areas you would be interested in pursuing for collaboration are due
4.  If you have extra student whiteboards, we have a couple teachers in great need--drop any extra you have to Yvonne
5.  Sub folders are due next week to Lisa
6.  I need one or two more classes willing to do the character development training with their students to fulfill our contract.  Please let me know by Friday.
7.  Please take a moment to look at your cumulative folders in the office.  Any student in a special program should have a colored folder (blue=RtI, yellow=SpEd, green=gifted, orange=504).  We are in the process of updating all our information and communicating everything to you; however, it's a quick scan for you to look at your class for colored folders.
8.  Keep smiling and being positive.  Support one another.  Keep asking questions and offering up ideas!  We have made it through one full week...still some tweaking to do, and we're all trying to find balance.  Overall, I think we're doing well!  Scale those mountains to reach great HEIGHTS!
