Brief descriptions of the test types are provided below. Please communicate this information to Test Administrators before they administer the pilot to ensure they have adequate time to prepare for the particular test type they will be administering.
TEST TYPE 1
This type consists of only the computer- administered items which include selected response, technology-enhanced, and short constructed-response items. In the Test Administrator interface of the Online Testing System, an example of how this test type would appear in the test selection box under the [Start Session] button is: G3 Math.
TEST TYPE 2
This type consists of the computer-administered items plus one individual Performance Task (PT.) A PT requires students to answer a set of questions in response to a prompt or set of prompts. In the Test Administrator Interface of the Online Testing System, an example of how this test type would appear in the test selection box under the [Start Session] button is: G3 Math 1 PT

Additionally, prior to administering the pilot we encourage you and your students to take the Training Test that is available on the Smarter Balanced Portal at the link below. The Training Test will familiarize students and administrators with the online software and different item types they will encounter on the pilot test.
