Thank you to all who took time to stop by for dinner and conversation last night. It is always a wonderful time to connect with the colleagues with whom we will share the year. What a beautiful evening to boot. :)
I am pleased to announce that we were approved to add another fifth grade classroom. This will reduce class size slightly for fifth, but fourth will still be starting around 30 and fifth will most likely catch up at this rate. The job posted yesterday and we will not be able to hire until Monday. We will need people to help us organize and put the room together. Maintenance is bringing us some desks and chairs. If you have extra desks or chairs in your room please set them in the hall. We need small sets for Kyle's room and larger sets for the new fifth. Books and materials will also need to be counted and moved.
Also excited to tell you that we were able to attract and hire a very qualified and experienced kindergarten teacher for the open half time position. Tiffany Caagbay has submitted her letter of resignation to Meridian and has been recommended to the Middleton School Board for hire.
The two additional classrooms (first and fifth) will require a reworking of the master schedule (music, PE, library, counseling, etc.) I hope to have SOME time to work on that tomorrow. Expect changes. Kindergarten will need some adjustments to the master schedule due to their implementation of single sex classrooms. I will pump this out as soon as possible, I promise.
Friday is the first day back for certified staff. Most of it will be for your preparation work in your rooms. Here are a few other items that may need to be considered on Friday:
- Possible grade level meetings (could be over lunch if you like) to determine recess duties and such.
- 504 meetings are scheduled first thing. If you are assigned a student on a 504 plan you will be asked to attend (and should have already received an email).
- I hope to begin interviews for the new fifth grade position on Thursday or Friday afternoon. If you are interested or willing to help please let me know.
