Sharing Cool Ideas

  • Sandy came in very excited today to show me her first educational app downloaded to her personal iPad.  She was demonstrating its functionality and explaining how she was going to use it this morning.  By the time she got to explaining the limitations and work around, two other teachers had gathered to look over her shoulder to see what and how she was using the iPad.  THIS is how our professional development will begin - discovery, experimentation and SHARING.  Please send me apps throughout the summer so we can add them to the blog for others to look at.  I will link to the front page so you can see what is new, but also link to the iPad page for longevity.  :)  Sandy's new app is Explain Everything.  Looks like a self made Kahn Academy.  :)
  • Have you seen the website Yummy Math?  It is designed with math activities around current events.  This week the post is in honor of Mother's Day or Father's Day.  It is called Diapers 2012.  What did it cost for your parents to keep you in diapers?  What will it cost when you grow up and have to buy diapers?  Which is cheaper, disposable or cloth?  How do you know?  All the worksheets are included.  Maybe an idea for a Monday math lesson following Mother's Day with two days of school left.
