***Update - Most teachers are asking about implementation of of iPads or iTouches in the classroom. A recent tech update that I received, listed iPads as the number one (of 20) top tech items for education. Edudemic states, "The iPad provides access to e-texts and incredible educational apps. Attach a Bluetooth keyboard, and students can easily create documents with this device." I was thinking - what if we used our SCF tech money to purchase an iPad for all certified staff. If we leave off email access, the iPad could be used by teacher or student. You could use it for instructional purposes- tracking student data or as an Interwrite tablet. If you wanted students to use them as 1:1 or 1:many, you could borrow or 'check out' iPads from other teachers, creating a small bank of devices for the day. Getting one for everyone would help us learn from each other, focus technology professional development and give us a better idea of potential before buying sets for individual classrooms. I believe we could fund this with this year's money and then begin classroom grants for other items next fall. This is a proposal. Please vote on the poll (on the blog) this week to indicate your interest in pursuing such a plan. ***
It is finally here - the long awaited tech grant application I have been talking about. So many of you have been dreaming and thinking and planning...... now we need to get it on paper. Here is what you need to know:
- The technology can be for teacher or student use or a combination of both.
- The technology must be tied to student achievement goals in language or math (or both)
- You may submit an application for your own classroom or as a team
- Download the application here, SCF Grant Application
- If you have questions or want assistance, please ask.
- I can help you with getting price quotes if you get the ideas on paper and tie them to achievement targets.
- Submit an electronic version to me by March 2nd for early consideration.
- Submit an electronic version to me by May 4th for next year's funding.
- Our school leadership team will review plans and help budget the money accordingly.
- There will be designated money each year for the next several years.
