Middleton starts the year with tragic news. Most have probably heard the news of death of two Middleton students on Thursday. Ashton Brayden was a MHS senior and her sister Sophie Moore attended first grade at Purple Sage. Their sister, Zoey Moore, a fifth grade student survived the accident. While these girls did not attend our school, they are and were friends and teammates with some of our students. Please be alert to students who may experience feelings of grief and may need counseling or additional support.

Monday is the start of the new year and students have been gone for two full weeks. Please do a thorough review of the behavior matrix and expectations just like you did in August.
Monday after school is our Leadership Team meeting. I would like to meet in the library and open the invitation to all you creative minded individuals. I would like to plant a seed of a vision of what is consistently part of Blue Ribbon Schools. We need you craft minded, artistic brained people to fill in the gaps for me. :) Please come if you feel so inclined.

The Emergency Operations Manuals are printed and will be put in your boxes. I would like you to read and review them prior to a staff meeting next Tuesday, January 15th. At that time we will discuss questions, hopefully have your clipboards ready and share out future plans for increased school security.
During the summer we ordered some kits called Expanding Expressions, which Jaime has used with preschool, kindergarten and language impaired students to do just that - expand expressions (expressive language skills). Training has been delayed for numerous reasons, but is now going to be offered as a webinar in the computer lab on Wednesday, January 16th. I would encourage primary grade teachers and employees who work with Title I, Language Impaired or ELL students to attend. If you want more information about the program talk to Jaime.
Universal Screeners should be completed for each grade level this week. Paraprofessionals will need to make this a priority in conducting the prescribed screeners. If your grade level wants additional assessments, I would ask that you wait until the required screeners are complete. Nina was going to have all the copies made, so check withe her before printing more. IRI winter assessments will be given at Heights and Purple Sage during these next two weeks.
Jason K Pollock, of Mass Mutual Financial Group will be here on Thursday, January 10th during lunch to share his information and services with you. If you are interested (or just willing to check in with him) please stop by the library to eat your lunch and visit.
