Levy Election Rescheduled for May 15, 2012

Updated with new links at bottom (3/29/2012)
The District is in full gear to rerun the Levy election on May 15, 2012.  As you know, we are already functioning on a very lean budget and have cut over $2 million over the past several years.  If we are unsuccessful with the levy in May we will be forced to cut an additional $1.6 million.  We need your help.  I need you to ask me if you have questions.  I need you to clarify any misconceptions you might have or are raised by the community.  We need you to help us talk about issue responsibly.  We can share information with parents and community members.  You are not to preach to your class and not to tell people how to vote; but starting conversations by asking probing or clarifying questions to open opportunity to provide data is encouraged.  There is no need to argue with someone who is dead set against it and will advertise against us.  We are unlikely to change their minds.  There are plenty of folks on the fence who either vote without the facts or do not vote.  This is the group of people we are trying to reach.  I will attach a few documents for your review.  These cover the statistics of the budget and frequently asked questions.

We also need to identify 200 positive votes.  If you visit with people and are able to identify that they are supportive of the levy we would like you to share this information with Lisa for compiling.  We use this list to have an outside source (not District money) send reminder voter postcards to them.  We also have teams of people (not at school nor with school phones) call and remind them to vote.  Since the State designates the dates which we can run levy elections we are required to run this on the same day as the primary.  So voter turnout will be higher (meaning more no votes get out to vote).  Our school needs to identify 200 yes.  Lisa has turned in 40 names leaving us 160 to find.

There will be five community meetings to help inform the public.  Ours will be Wednesday, April 4 at 9:30 a.m. in the library.  Others will be held in the evenings.

Please read through the information attached and let me know if you have additional questions.
