Professional development goals are due September 12th. Some of you may have written them following your evaluation last year. If so, would you just review them and submit an updated copy. The teacher evaluation is designed around professional improvement. As you write your goals think about how you want you want to learn or improve, NOT what you want to do or have students do. With our theme of being able to do something poorly while we learn to do it well, you should feel liberated to tackle one of your fears. Let me know if you need help in the development of your goals. I will be reviewing the evaluation process with new teachers Tuesday morning at 7:30 if anyone else wants to attend.
Your grade level should be finishing up Universal Screeners. If you need additional assistance to complete these please let me know. I have the EA team working with kindergarten and first grade. They should be able to finish on Friday. Remember that we will help with data compilation also. Thank you Cindy and Nina for your leadership in this project.
We successfully completed our first two fire drills. A few items to note;
- Get in the habit of closing your door and turning off lights whenever you leave the room
- Have student list with parent contact information by the door, clearly marked for fire drill use
- Instruct students to leave the building and wait VERY quietly so that they are able to hear any emergency directions being given.
- Remind students to meet you at your spot no matter where they are (PE, library, bathroom, playground)
- We will have another drill in the next two weeks.
We will again be offering weekend meals for chronically hungry students through the Food Bank Backpack program. If you believe one of your students would benefit from weekend help please submit their name to me. We will follow up on the referral and gain parent permission. Look for signs such as students who eat all of their snack and lunch yet do not appear satisfied, or who attempt to store food to take home. You might also pick up on clues from conversations with students. We are ready to begin as soon as we identify students.
Constitution Day is September 17th. By law you are to do some instruction regarding the Constitution. This is a great opportunity for Buddy Class projects. If you need ideas or resources let me know. Don't forget to check Discovery Education support materials,
Darcy found a pdf document that explains the purpose behind test packs and how to use it in Plato. This might be a good document for teachers to review if they plan on using plato this year.
