The news media will be in the building Thursday morning to do an extended story on our gender separate classrooms. While filming in a fourth grade classroom in January, Scott Evans realized the room was filled with only boys. Of course this sparked his interest and he asked to return to cover it as an interest story. I received a phone call last night asking if they could come on Thursday morning. I figured with the carnival and all - what the heck - my life is a zoo anyway.
They will set up around 8:00 so they can do a bit of filming as Lisa prepares her "boys" for testing. Scott's plan is to interview me for a bit, film in a few classrooms, interview a couple teachers and hopefully visit with a parent. If you have a suggestion of a parent for me to contact, please let me know.
Those of you willing to be interviewed, let me know, but please think through what you might say so that you are carful not to throw in any controversial terms because we will not have editing options. Words like "differentiation", "gender separate", "same curriculum taught with variety of teaching strategies"........all sound better than "segregation", and "girls/boys always"..................... :)
Send me an email if you have suggestions or concerns. I understand the piece will air Sunday, May 15th.
