Political Warning

Not sure what happened recently, but last night (Wednesday) administrators received a warning reminder from assistant superintendent, Mike Friend.  I don't know if a complaint or grievance was filed, but was asked to review the following information with you.
  • First, local teacher association (MEA) activities should not be conducted during teacher contract time - namely the solicitation of signatures for the purpose of determining who negotiates. Contract time is for teaching. preparation, and conferencing. This is not a new position on the part of the district.
  • Secondly, the gathering of signatures for the "education referendums" should not be done on school time/property. Principle X e of the Idaho Educator Code of Ethics states that it is unethical to use institutional privileges for the promotion of political candidates or for political activities except for local, state or national education association elections.
