New Students

I'm sure most of you have met or observed our new students (twins) in the second grade.  This post is to give you a bit of information without breaching confidentiality or scaring you.  I want you as staff members to be aware of possible situations and inform you that your job is to maintain the safety of our other students and then yourselves.  What this may mean for you:
  • PSR workers will be with these students as "buddies" and will take the lead in providing necessary services for them.  I of course will be actively involved as needed.
  • You are to secure areas if necessary; playground or lunchroom move other students and redirect other students as needed.
  • If  a disruption is taking place in the hallways, bathrooms or general areas, either use loose "lock down" procedures keeping your students in your classrooms, use other restrooms as appropriate and other entries and exits as deemed necessary to avoid the containment area.
  • Notify the office if additional help is needed by the PSR workers.
  • Do not engage in directives with these students.  They will most likely not comply and may escalate quickly.
  • If you have questions or concerns, please address them to me.  Remember these are children and we want to help them maintain their dignity whenever possible.
  • Finally, if you observe aggressive behaviors toward me, please do not share that with any of my family members.  Seriously.
