Red Ribbon Week - first I would like to thank my colleague, Val Berg, for sharing Mill Creek's plan with us. We have agreed to coordinate with them so that the itinerant personnel do not have to memorize different dress codes. (OK, just a good excuse for copying their ideas.)
- We will recognize RRW October 25-27th
- Fifth grade will attend a special assembly at the Middle School on the 21st
- We will do a school wide writing prompt to be completed RRW and display winning pieces.
- Door decoration contest for the week (Google search will give you great ideas for this)
- Buddy Class projects (need to drive home the Drug Free idea with a theme day) could decorate fence as grade levels, create posters, drug free activities (again GOOGLE for ideas).
- Monday - October 25th "Follow Your Dreams!" - wear pajamas
- Tuesday - October 26th "Stay in the Game!" - team jerseys
- Wednesday - October 27th "Too Sharp to do Drugs!" - dress sharp, everyone dressy dress up.
We will do multiple school wide writing prompts this year. The first will be RRW, followed again on December 1st for Write on Idaho. Since incorporating writing and improving writing skills are still Heights' goals no matter what the State does with assessments, we will invest our program funds into bringing author Gary Hogg back for classroom workshops. As we make arrangements with Gary we will determine if he has another assembly to change it up. If not we will only do the workshops.
Math Facts - we also reviewed math fact discussions from last year. These are baseline required/expected levels; not all you will teach or grade against. Grade levels had agreed to be accountable for mastery of math facts at the following levels:
- Kindergarten letter naming fluency
- First grade addition facts
- Second grade subtraction facts
- Third grade addition & subtraction facts (10 18)
- Fourth grade multiplication
- Fifth grade division.
