Fire Drills

Our first fire drill on Thursday went smoothly. We need to decrease the amount of time it takes to clear the building, but for our first it went as expected. I found three doors propped open. Please designate the last student to close the door. This would prevent the fire from spreading quickly from room to room.

• Have a student list posted by your door to grab to help with attendance when outside the building.
• Teachers need to LEAD their class out so if they came to an obstacle, they can make the necessary adjustments.
• If you are missing any students, please inform one of the "extra people" closer to the edge of the grass, then return to take care of your class.
• Inform students to leave the building from their CLOSEST location and then meet you at your designated spot. This is important if they are in the lunchroom, library, bathroom or office. Their first inclination is to return to the room. If they are at recess they would gather at your designated spot.
• Students should be quiet during a fire drill so that they can easily hear any necessary information.
• Students should face AWAY from the building. Different fields of thought on this, but it protects them if windows blow out.

We are to have a drill for each month that we are in session. We will have one fire drill each week during this first month. This will facilitate learning and then we don't have to stand out in the cold in December and January. :)
