MTI Work With Mill Creek

In August your grade level MTI representatives attended another training in Meridian to gain information to begin the creation of unit number three.  It was during this meeting that the teams discussed the desire to work together to align assessments.  Val and I have worked to secure dates with coaches and funding for substitutes.  The FIRST session is scheduled at Mill Creek on October 11 & 12.

  • Kindergarten, first and second grade teachers will meet on the 11th.  The morning you will have opportunity to have the coaches available to answer questions and glean ideas when necessary.
  • Fourth grade will meet together with a coach available on the morning of October 12th.  The afternoon will be without the coach (unless you need more help.)
  • Fifth grade will meet with the coach all day on October 12th.
  • Third grade will meet with Mill Creek teachers in the morning to start the work under the direction of their MTI representatives.  The coach will be more available to your team in the afternoon.

The goal is to work work on the development of common understandings of student targets and the creation of common formative and summative assessments.  Pacing calendars, as far as how much time of the year should be set aside for the unit and when during the year it fits best should also be mapped.  You may or may not have the same tasks and resources for the instruction.  Sharing ideas is beneficial  but HOW you choose to teach a unit will have teacher prerogative.

If you complete unit three or get to a 'stopping point' for the day you can use the afternoon to refine units one and two. Assessments could be judged for quality based on standards explained in the CASL books.  We also have the video training for the Kim Sutton number fluency materials to use.  My expectation is that you use the entire day effectively for collaboration and professional development with math.

Please note - Lisa has secured substitutes for the days.  You need to enter the professional day in Skyward Employee Access but DO NOT use the Aesop link to ask for a substitute for these days for this purpose.

Please note again - to have this many substitutes to cover all these classrooms we leave the sub pool pretty shallow for others.  Try not to schedule an illness or activity on these days.  :)
