Accelerated Reader

I was looking at a report on Renaissance Learning today and was quite concerned.  According to research, students need to be reading regularly and scoring between 85-92% average correct on AR tests.  For our school only 47% of our AR students are reaching at least 85% correct.  That indicates a lot of failed assessments.  Some classrooms are scoring as low as 31% of students at the 85% baseline.  But on the other hand we have classrooms with 100%.  That too can be a problem as it indicates not enough challenge to be beneficial to reading gains.  Think about lifing weights that are too light.  You won't build muscle.

If you need some help with how to monitor this process to better ensure success for students please let me know.  I can set up an afterschool time to meet with you or grade level teams.
