This past week four of five Middleton building administrators attended a facilitators conference in Portland, Oregon. You will be happy to know that it was an energizing addition to what we are already doing. Last spring and fall, a team of teachers and administrators from each building were trained in the Seven Strategies. These seven strategies are really a how to get started guide for Classroom Assessment for Learning. Now you should be right comfortable with these terms by now, so you will believe me when I say, next year our goal will be taking the same stuff and going deeper.
I have a vision (I know this scares some of you, but it did not come to me in the shower this time). We will work as a district, school and grade level teams to increase our knowledge and skills of using assessment to motivate students to learn. I am excited. When was the last time you were excited just thinking about assessments. :)
Oh, by the way for those who asked, "Who is Rick Stiggins?" He is the guru of assessment. His research and professional development will have a lasting impact on how teachers teach for the greatest learning for students. Oh, and he loves chocolate and thinks eating dessert first is a grand idea.
