1. Thanks to the maintenance department we have tackable strips hanging on the wall behind the heart smart cart. We will be displaying the prints that we received from teh grant. The first prints to be hung will coincide with some of the current Core Knowledge instruction. Your representative should have communicated all the prints available for instruction. If you would like to use one that is posted, feel free to take it to your class (let the office know where it went) and return it when you are done. If there is a print you want displayed in the lunchroom, just ask. The book with the lessons for each print is in my office (one copy. Where is the other?)
2. We discussed class sizes for next year. According to our numbers we are overstaffed this year by one FTE. Since enrolment is expected to drop by 1% next year, we are being asked to reduce our teaching staff by one FTE. Here are some things to know and consider.
- The District is NOT currently cutting any contracts. We are hoping to be able to keep everyone by natural attrition. In the long run, people may need to be moved as people leave and positions are not rehired.
- As a team we looked at the following POSSIBLE configuration to help with class size: 4 kindergarten sessions plus the L21C "after school" program, 4 first grade classes, 3.5 second grade classes (including a 2/3 combo class of all girls), 2.5 third grade classes (including a 2/3 combo class of all girls), 2.5 fourth grade classes (including a 4/5 combo class of all girls), and 2.5 fifth grade classes (including a 4/5 combo class of all girls). We could also offer an all boys class at any grade level except fifth.
- We have not been asked to reduce classified staff at this time. Talk is happening about reconfiguring and or reducing time or schedules IF NEEDED.
- Please ask me if you have questions. Do not worry. I will come to anyone who might be directly affeected. I am open to any conversations other than gossip. "Worrying" about it outloud
